Mary Gilliland, 83, of Sigourney, died Thurs., June 20, 1996, at Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney.

She was born Dec. 29, 1912, in Mora, Minn., to William and Ella Ward Myers. She married Charles Gilliland on March 19, 1933 in Ottumwa. She graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1929 and attended Iowa Business School in Ottumwa. She worked as a stenographer for Swift and Co. in Ottumwa and later worked many years at the Keokuk County State Bank in Sigourney. She was deputy auditor of Keokuk County for four years. She was a member of Lancaster Christian Church and Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Richard; four grandchildren; four great-grand-children; a brother, Hubert Myers; and a sister, Dorothy Crawford.

She was preceded in death by her, parents; four brothers, George, Elmore, Lawrence and Archie Myers; and three sisters, Ellen Washburn, Faye Rizor and Alice DeVore.

Services were held June 24 at Lancaster Christian Church, the Revs. Don Dye and Dan Sanford officiating. Burial was in Pennington Cemetery, south of Sigourney.
