Francis Ray Carter, 74, died April 26, 1998 at his home near Hedrick.

He was born April 8, 1924 in Sigourney to Lulu Rebecca Carter. He married Lois Miller on Jan. 19, 1946 at Raton, N.M. He attended rural school near Hedrick. He entered the U.S. Air Force in April, 1943 and was discharged in Oct. 1945. He flew 35 missions over Germany. He farmed north of Hedrick and worked for John Deere in Ottumwa until retiring in 1980.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Jimmy Ray Carter; four daughters, Janis Weber, Joyce Reed, Judy Heinrichs and Juanita Brain; 10 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Services will be held Wed., April 29 at 10:30 a.m. at the Reynolds Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Darrell Sams officiating. Burial will be in the Brooks Cemetery near Hedrick.
