Vern Boomershine, 84, of Delta, died Wednesday, March 20, 1996, at his home in Delta.

He was born Nov. 7, 1911, at What Cheer to Clement and Bertha Smothers Boomershine. He graduated from Delta High School in 1930, and served in the United States Army during WW II. He married Hazel McKeag on May 12, 1940 in Waterloo. He was a substitute mail carrier from 1944-1949; then operated Boomershine Texaco for Home Oil in Delta from 1949-1979, then was affiliated with Conoco from 1979 until retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Delta Christian Church and Club-Shipley American Legion Post in Delta.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel; two sons, Ray and Dennis; a daughter, Cheryl Baughman; seven grandchildren: eight great-grandchildren; and a special cousin, George Heming.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Glen; and two sisters, Opal Zimmerman and Nola Herrick.

Services were held Mar. 24 at lO:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with the Rev. Dan Sanford officiating. Burial was in Garrett Cemetery in Delta.
