Gladys A. Black, 95, formerly of Delta, died Mon., Aug. 17, 1998 at English Valley Care Center in North English.

She was born on Oct. 27, 1902 in Delta to Fred and Rose Basil Gruber, She married Jesse Pence; he died in April of 1964. She married Donald Black on Sept. 9, 1967, at Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed together near Delta until, Donald's passing in 1987. She was raised in Delta and graduated from Delta High School. She taught for two years in the Delta area and was also a telephone operator. A former member of, Delta Christian Church, she had been a resident of English Valley Care Center since 1993.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Louie and Charlie Gruber; and a sister Cora Sypherd.

Graveside services and entombment was held on Aug. 20 at Garrett Cemetery near Delta, the Rev. Frances Baumert of What Cheer Christian Church officiating.
