Jack Baird, 83, of Delta died Oct. 27, 1999.

He was born Oct. 1, 1916 near Sigourney, the son of Earl and Caroline "Carrie" Sutherland Baird. He attended, school in Sigourney. On Dec. 4, 1935 he married Myrtle Glandon in Oskaloosa. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a truck driver for Kriese Trucking. He worked at Gatewood Service Station, for 22 years and drove the tank truck. He retired from the University of Iowa Hospital custodial services. He was a member of American Legion Clubb-Shipley Post #485. He served on the Delta, Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years and on the Delta School Board, serving as president for many years.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Dixie Kanke and Billie Wehr; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Lance Baird and Pete Baird; and a sister, Patricia Carter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Virginia Dale; and three brothers, Robert, Donald and R.N. Baird.

Funeral services were held Sat., Oct. 30 at the Delta Methodist Church with the Rev. Vince Homan officiating. Burial was in the Springfield Cemetery in near Delta.
