Jean Mateer-Ashby, 69, of Davenport and formerly of Sigourney, died Fri., May 25, 20Ol, in Genesis East Medical Center in Davenport.

She was born April 13, 1932, in rural Delta to Walter and Berniece Elder Appleget. She married Jack D. Mateer on Feb. 4, 1951, in Sigourney; he died Nov. 28, 1969. She then married Allan M. Ashby on Dec. 5, 1984. She was a 1950 Sigourney High School graduate and was the Keokuk County Recorder for 12 years. She then moved to Davenport and worked for the Scott County Recorder's office for 12 years, retiring in 1997.

She is survived by her husband; three sons, Mike Mateer, Rick Mateer and Randy Mateer; a daughter, Tammy Flack; four stepsons, Mark Ashby, Scott Ashby, Gary Ashby and Loren Ashby; 20 grandchildren; her mother of Sigourney; three sisters, Doris Waechter, Patty Sievert and Linda Brady; two brothers, Allen Appleget and Lynn Appleget; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Walter; and two brothers, Larry and Donald.

Services will be held Wed., May 30 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Sigourney. Burial will be in Pennington Cemetery near Sigourney.
