Roy D. "Bud" Herrick, 84, of Delta, died of a heart attack Nov. 4, 1999 at Mahaska County Hospital in Oskaloosa.

He was born Nov. 16, 1914 in Delta to Adam and Sadie (Miller) Herrick and attended Martinsburg High School. On Sept. 10. 1938, he married Wilmoth Shultz in Ottumwa. He entered the U.S. Army in March of 1944 and served in Europe during WWII until October of 1945, when he was honorably discharged. He was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a mechanic at Gatewood Motors in Delta for 47 years and was known as the "quail hunter". In addition to hunting, he enjoyed Chicago Cubs baseball and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Billy; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Georgia Stout.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Don and Ron; and a great-grandson, Travis Herrick.

Funeral services were held Mon. Nov. 8 at Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney with Vince Homan officiating. Burial was in the Garrett Cemetery in Delta.
