Sherman F. Northup, 74, died Fri. Nov. 5, 1999.

He was born Aug. 10, 1925 in Keokuk County, to James Franklin and Mabel Awtry Northup. He graduated from Batavia High School. On Jan. 31, 1951, he married Lois Leffler in Killeen, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army from Sept. 13, 1950 to Sept. 20, 1952 and was stationed in Germany. He lived in Davenport and worked at International Harvester, returning to Sigourney in 1955. He worked at the Sigourney Creamery, John Matlin's Phillip 66 and was a bridge crew foreman for Keokuk County. In January of 1972, he had a crippling stroke and was unable to work. He was a lifetime member of Lacey-Kerr V.F.W. Post #2308 in Sigourney.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Larry, Don and Jim; a daughter, Carol Stutzman; nine grandchildren; and a sister, Lucille Crawford.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Gerald Northup.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 8 at the Holm Funeral Home in Sigourney with the Rev. Jim Stout officiating. Burial was in the Garrett Cemetery in Delta. Military honors were given by the Sigourney Veterans.
