James Harris, 76, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, January 5, 1993, at his home.

He was born October 17, 1916 in Delta to Willis and Susan Bensler Harris. He married Mabel Chrisman on December 24, 1941 in Lancaster, Missouri.

He served with the Army from March 1942 to October 1945, and was awarded the Bronze Star, four Battle Stars and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Spearhead and two Battle Stars. He worked for Gee Grading and Excavating in Cedar Rapids for 23 years, retiring and moving to Martinsburg. He was a member of Keota American Legion Post 424 and Keota Christian Church.

He is survived by hls wife: a daughter, Janice Wide; three grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; four sisters, Avis Jacobs,
Neva Miller, Lillian Cooley and Edna Sward.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; Lloyd, George, Floyd and Willis; and a sister, Freda Long.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Holm Funeral Home in Sigourney, the Rev. Joseph Lloyd officiating. Burial was in Garrett Cemetery near Delta.
