Winnifred Jones, 79, of Sigourney died April 29, 2000 at her home.

She was born Oct. 17, 1920, in Delta to Bernerd and Anna Bruns Neal. She married John William Jones on Nov. 29, 1939 in Chillicothe. He died Jan. 16, 1984. She attended Newkirk school and graduated from Sigourney High School in 1938. She taught country school for two years and helped on the family farm while raising her family. She worked at Wimmer's Department store and Benners in Sigourney, Winn Dixie and St. Leo College in Florida and at J.C. Penney's in Ottumwa. She also worked in the kitchen at Jefferson Square Manor and was an early morning cook at the Wapello County Care Facility before retiring in 1983 to care for her husband. She was a member of the Sigourney United Methodist Church and three card clubs.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Kimmel; two sons, Richard and Rex; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and a sister, Viola Waechter.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Alan Jones.

Funeral services were held May 5 at the Sigourney United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Danny Lemons officiating. Burial was in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa.
