Mabel Nimtz Cuddy Starry, 90, of Sigourney died June 18, 1992, at Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney.

She was born April 24, 1902,on a farm three miles southwest of Keswick to Charles and Anna Brandenburg Nimtz. She married Bill Cuddy in 1936. He died in 1950. She married Eldon "Dick" Starry on February 9, 1974.

She graduated in 1919 from Keswick High School and attended Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls and taught seventh and eighth grade at Webster. She earned a bachelor's degree in 1932 from University of Iowa. She retired in 1967 as principal of Sigourney elementary and later taught at State Mental Health Institute in Mount Pleasant. She was a member and secretary of Keokuk County Hospital board. She organized Sigourney Meals for the Homebound and served as president of TTT Society and Keokuk County Teacher's Association. She was a member of State Elementary Principal's Association, American Legion Auxiliary, Keokuk County Retired Teacher's Association, served on county committee on aging, was president of Business and Professional Women, a member of United Methodist Church in Sigourney, serving on the church administrative board, a member of Weslyen Service Guild, Women's Society and a Sunday school teacher.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Dr. Allan Starry; a daughter, Roberta Kerr; five grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Albert and Karl Nimtz; and a sister, Leona Rosenboom.

The funeral was 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, at United Methodist Church in Sigourney, the Rev. Danny Lemons officiating. Burial was in Sorden Cemetery in Webster.
