Clara Sophia Ritter Shultz, 103, of Rural Hedrick died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1992, at Sigourney Care Center in Sigourney.

She was born October 16, 1888, northwest of Hedrick, to Frederick W. and Catherine P. Holzhouser Ritter. She married John C. Shultz March 17, 1909, at her parents’ home in Rural Hedrick. He died May 12, 1964.

She and her husband farmed in Rural Hedrick and she was a homemaker. She was active in Keokuk County Farm Bureau and Ben Franklin Hustlers. She was a lifetime member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hedrick and Women's Circle of the Church.

She is survived by two sons, Frederick and his wife Floren and Chalmer and his wife Ruth; two daughters, Viola Miller and Ruth Morrow; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Shultz Gorman; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Rex and an infant; a granddaughter; two brothers, Philip and Frederick Ritter; and five sisters, Margaret Berg, Katie Sauer, Mary Shafer, Phoebe Byram and Lula Arendt.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 18 at Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont with Rev. Ernie Elzey officiating. Burial was in Abel Cemetery, northwest of Hedrick.
