Obituary - Keokuk County News August 25, 1938

Elvin H. Davis, formerly known as "Si", age 67, died at his home on N. Jefferson St. last Saturday evening at 10 o'clock. While he had been ill for the past year, he was not confined to his bed until the week of his life.

The funeral service was held on Monday afternoon at rentals funeral parlor, conducted by Reverend Potter, pastor of the church of Christ. Burial was made at west cemetery with services by the local Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge, of which he had been a member, at the grave.

Mr. Davis was born in Keokuk county in 1870 and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James H. Davis. He spent most of his life in this county, with the exception of six years when he lived in Nebraska. He had been a resident of Sigourney for many years.

In 1930, Mr. Davis was united in marriage to Cora A. Berry, who survives him. Also surviving are one brother, Frank Davis and one sister, Mrs. Jenny Clary, both Sigourney residents and several nieces and nephew's.

Besides being a member of the lodge, Mr. Davis was a member of the Sigourney Rebecca lodge, Sons of Veterans, his father having fought in the Civil War and in his early years he became a member of the church of Christ.
