Keokuk County News - Feb 17, 1921

Retta Basil Davis was born in Hickory County Missouri, January 30, 1871, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ollie Phelps, Sigourney Iowa, February 10, 1921, age 50 years and 10 days.

At the age of four years her parents moved Iowa, settling in Keokuk county, where our deceased sister has since resided.

She was married November 30, 1888, to John C. Davis, to this union were born two children, both of whom survive today, Mrs. Myrtle Erickson, Richmond, California; and Mrs. Ollie Phelps, Sigourney. There are also 3 grandchildren, Cedric and Edward Phelps and Edward Drew McBride, beside the mother, Mrs Ellen Basil of Delta. Three sisters, Mrs. Rosa Gruber, Des Moines; Mrs. Alice Korf, McCook Nebraska and Miss Della Basil of Delta, and one brother, Jesse F of Delta.

Sister Davis was converted more than 20 years ago, becoming a member of the Methodist Church and remaining so until her death. Her illness has been a long duration. The last two months she was continually to the hospital in Ottumwa. She was a kind and good mother and will be greatly missed in her circle of her loved ones.

Funeral services were conducted from the Sigourney Christian church, February 12, by Reverend R. B. Hyten . Burial in West Cemetery.
