Keokuk County news May 15, 1902

John C. Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. James H Davis was born in Keokuk county, March 24, 1867. He has lived here all of his life except six years, during which time he lived in Nebraska. He was married to Miss Retta Basil November 30, 1888; to this union was born two daughters, Ethel Rosine and Myrtle May.

Mr. and Mrs. Davis united with the Methodist Church about four years ago. He died at his home 3 miles west of Sigourney, May 12, at 12:20 PM at the age of 35 years, one month and 18 days. He had only been sick a short time, and his death was a shock to the community. He will be greatly missed by all. He was a good Christian man, a good neighbor and a kind, faithful husband and father. A large concourse of friends and relatives gathered at the house where the funeral was conducted by Reverend Lovall and followed his remains to the Connor cemetery where he was laid to rest.

"Mr. John Davis who lived 3 miles west of Sigourney died last Monday at 12:30 after an illness of less than a week. Mr. Davis was suffering from an appendicitis and last Sunday, Dr. Spillman assisted by Dr. A.P. Johnson of this place and Dr.Eastburn of Hedrick operated upon Mr. Davis for the dread disease but the relief came too late and Mr. Davis passed away Monday.

He leaves a wife and two daughters. The funeral services were held Tuesday and the interment was in the Conner Cemetery."
