Obituary - Keokuk County News April 21, 1898

James Davis, who resided on a farm 6 miles northwest of Sigourney, died Monday morning and the Funeral Took Pl., Tuesday for noon. He was an old resident of this county. He was a soldier in the 33rd Iowa. The funeral services were conducted by minister from Keswick. The pallbearers were selected from Webb lodge, A. F. And A. M. And Rob. F. Lowe Post, G.A.R.of Sigourney. The Masonic Lodge and GAR post of Sigourney met the funeral procession at the cemetery and conducted the exercises at the cemetery. Mr. Davis was a good and kind hearted man, respected by his neighbors. He had been in poor health for two years or more and gradually failed until the end came. He was passed 63 years old.
