Keokuk County News, September 19, 1918.

Martin M Davis, son of Peter and Anna Davis, was born in Indiana March 7, 1843, and died at the home of his daughter Mrs. Henry Stokesberry, near Sigourney, Iowa, September 10, 1918, aged 75 years six months and three days.

He came to Iowa with his parents when a child, living with them on the farm northwest of Sigourney.

He was married to Miss Sarah J. Tresslar March 4, 1864, and too them was born one son now living, Harvey J. Davis of Delta, Iowa. His first wife died July 24, 1870.

Mr. Davis was married a second time, in 1872, to Miss Margaret Frey, and to them were born five children, two of whom Ruth and Charlie, preceded their parents to the bright beyond. The surviving children are James Frey Davis, Mrs. Henry Stokesberry and Hercules Smith Davis. He is survived by one granddaughter Gertrude Stokesberry, one brother, John Davis, of Nebraska and two sisters, Mrs. Louisa Sannders of Indiana and Mrs. Eliza Robinson of Martinsburg, Iowa.

Mr. Davis possessed a quiet disposition and was loved and respected by all his neighbors and friends.

He united with the Baptist Church in Sigourney in April, 1863 and was consistent member until it was said "well done, good and loyal faithful servant, enter that into the joys of the Lord. "

Funeral was held at the Baptist Church Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock and conducted by Reverend Heath of Ottumwa. Those from a distance attending the funeral were Mrs. S. G. Allender on Des Moines, J. E. Hartman of Davenport.

Singers were Miss Adel Page, Miss Nora Eveman, Mr. Neil Elliot and Mr. Tom Beale. Organist, Miss Lottie Everman.

Pallbearers, Carl Walton, Andy Roloff, William Randall, Henry Seebers, Peter Heighstoffer and Ralph Kelly.

The minister, pallbearers and undertaker were the same as for his wife who died March 9, 1914.
