Chester Earl Long, 82, of rural Sigourney died May 22, 1985 at the Keokuk county hospital where he had been a patient since March 27.

He was born June 13, 1902 in Girard, Kansas, to Linus and Nettie Utterback Long. His family moved to Lancaster when he was a year old and four years later moved to Colorado where they stayed eight years. They moved back to Lancaster where he lived and farmed the rest of his life.

He married Madge Hayes Aug. 6, 1922 at the Methodist Parsonage in Sigourney and the couple celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary last August. He was a member of the Lancaster Christian church since 1917 and was also a member of the Keokuk County Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his wife, Madge; a son, Stanton and his wife, Joyce and two grandsons, Brian and Scott.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Leslie Long, and six sisters, Lelia Gimple, Gladys Decker, Maude Chynoweth, Bernice Kelsey, Grace Ross and Velma Kelsey.

Services were May 24 at the Lancaster Christian church with the Rev. Don Dye officiating, Interment was at Pennington cemetery.
