George F. Jones, age 66, of rural Hedrick, died June 25, at the University Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

He was born Feb. 13, 1922 near Hedrick, to J. Alex and Clara Axmear Jones. He graduated from Martinsburg high school in 1939. He was in the U.S. Navy and had served in the South Pacific during WW II. He had been a farmer. He married Viola McCanaughey on Aug. 2, 1953 in Ottumwa. He was a member of the Farson Baptist church, of the Farm Bureau and Martinsburg Masonic Lodge No. 106 A.F. and A.M.

He is survived by his wife, Viola; one son, David; one daughter, Joyce Jackson; one grandson; and one sister, Ada Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son, Dennis; two brothers, John and Paul Jones.

Services were held June 28 at the Fremont Funeral Chapel with Pastor Peter Larsen of Oskaloosa, officiating. Burial was in Mount Zion cemetery near Martinsburg. A graveside Masonic service was conducted by the Martinsburg Lodge.
