Dale Elliott Colbert, the son of Fred Raymond and Gertrude Beckley Colbert, was born Feb. 10, 1919, near What Cheer. He attended country schools.

He enlisted in the United States Army in 1940, he served in Europe for 18 months and was discharged as a Sergeant in 1945. He was married to Clarice Irene Cook, on May 20, 1941 at Lancaster, Missouri. They have owned and operated Colbert Oil Company and lived in Hayesville since 1945. He served as mayor of Hayesville for many years and was a member of Leo R. Farmer American Legion Post 19 at Sigourney.

He was preceded in death by his father Fred Colbert and one brother Don Colbert.

Survivors include his wife Clarice, one son and his wife Michael and Judy Colbert and one grandson Dale Michael Colbert, his mother Gertrude Colbert, two sisters Mrs. Amos (Verna) Adams, Mrs. H. O. (Phyllis) Hicklin and one brother, Jim Colbert.

Services were held at the Holm Funeral Home in Sigourney, conducted by Bob Renner, pastor of South Keokuk Church of Brethren of Ollie. Burial was at Pennington cemetery. Military honors were by Leo R. Farmer American Legion Post 19.
