Atherton Dwight Beasley, the son of Jesse O. and Edna Long Beasley, was born November 17, 1914 in Sigourney, Iowa. He attended Basie School, east of Hayesville, Iowa. On May 19,1940, he married Dorothy Hardlein in Lancaster, Missouri.

In WWII he served in the Marine Corps at Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands and the occupation of China. He worked as a carpenter all his life. He was a member of Local Union No. 1260 United Brotherhood of Carpenter and Joiners of America in Iowa City, James Murphy Post No. 319 American Legion of Keswick, Iowa. He donated many hours to the Keokuk County Historical Society.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Dwaine Lucas and James Stout; five grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one brother, Herbert Beasley.

Services were held Dec. 5, 1985 at the Holm Funeral Home with burial at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Military Honors by James Murphy Post 319 American Legion, Keswick, Iowa.
