ELDER, Claude Albert, 1917-1984

He was born July 1, 1917, in Valley Junction, Iowa, to Albert and Lizzie Adams Elder.

He attended Union Hall School in Keokuk County. He worked at construction and entered the Army in March, 1941. He served in WWII in the European-African-Middle East Theatre and received three Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal. He returned home in 1945 and worked for Howard Construction Company of Sedalia, Missouri until 1968. He later worked for the City of Davenport, Iowa, and moved to Sigourney in 1978.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Ruth Elder and four brothers, Ben Elder of Willard, Mo., Ralph Elder of Caledonia, Wisconsin, Kenneth Elder and Richard Elder of Kahoka, Missouri.

Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Walter (Bernice) Appleget, Mrs. Walter (Edith) Denney and Mrs. Prentiss (Evelyn) Faw; a brother, Lloyd Elder; a step daughter, Reta Klinginsmith and three step grandchildren.

Services were held at Holm Funeral Home, in Sigourney, on May 4, 1984, at 10:00 A.M., followed by graveside services at 2:00 P.M. at Chambersburg cemetery, Kahoka, Missouri.
