Dr. Guy G. Goldthwaite, aged 86, died Tuesday at Friendship Village in Waterloo, where he and Mrs. Goldthwaite had been living since he became ill April 14.

Dr. Goldthwaite has practiced dentistry in Sigourney continuously since 1904, until February of this year, a period of almost 64 years.

He was born June 28, 1881 in Sigourney, the son of Charles J. and Mary Shawhan Goldthwaite, and was a graduate of Sigourney high school, and of the University of Iowa Dental School in 1904. Following his graduation, he began dental practice in Sigourney, and had remained in practice until earlier this year.

On June 30, 1909, he was married to Gladys Pfaff at Davenport. They were the parents of two children, a son, Dr. Charles J. Goldthwaite, and a daughter, Mrs. Russell (Jane) Gerard II.

Surviving Dr. Goldthwaite in addition to his wife and children are five grandchildren: Charles J. Goldthwaite, Jr., Jane D. Goldthwaite, Mrs. Sue D. Graham, Russell S. Gerard III and Linda, G. Pancratz; and one great grandson, Bradley J. Pancratz. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and George, and a sister, Mary.

Dr. Goldthwaite was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Sigourney. He was a member of the Sigourney Masonic Lodge, Webb Lodge No. 182, A. F. & A. M. of Sigourney, having been a member since 1907, and receiving his 50 year certificate in 1957; a 32nd degree Mason, member of Cedar Rapids Consistory; and member of Kaaba Shrine Temple of Davenport. He held life membership in the American and Iowa Dental associations, and was past president of Southeastern Iowa Dental association. For several years he served as Scoutmaster of the Sigourney Boy Scouts of America troop; and he served for 12 years as member of the Sigourney Independent School district board of education. He was active for many years in the Sigourney Chamber of Commerce; and had served for many years as director of the Keokuk County State Bank.

Funeral services will be Friday at the Sigourney Presbyterian church, with the Rev. Roy Wilson of Perry, former Sigourney pastor, in charge. Burial at Pleasant Grove cemetery.
