Verna Louise Chilton, 88, of Longview, died Oct. 22, 1998 at home.

She was born Sept. 15, 1910 in Sigourney, the daughter of William F. and Willamina Wilkening Long.

She was a secretary for many years at the University of Iowa, retiring in 1977. She was a member of the Lancaster Christian Church in Lancaster, Iowa and was devoted to her family.

She is survived by. three sons, Mike, Tony and Don; three daughters, Pat Malone, Natalie Hardy and Sarah Chilton-Stiegmann; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Oct. 26 at the Canterbury Inn in Longview, Wash. Burial was in Springfield Memorial Gardens in Springfield, Wash.

Arrangements were made by Columbia Funeral Service.
