Michael William Hardesty, 55, of Fairfax, Va., formerly of Sigourney, died Oct. 10, 1997 at his home.

He was born Sept. 20, 1942, in Washington, D.C., to Miriam Ann Hardesty. He was adopted and raised by his maternal grandparents, Samuel Ray and Mabel Liechti Hardesty of Sigourney. He was a 1960 graduate of Sigourney High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1963. On Sept. 21, 1963, he married Kathy Jean Brinning of Hayesville, Iowa. In 1980, they divorced. He operated his own business, Mike's TV, from 1971 until his death, and also Mike's Antiques, Rare Books and Records. Earlier, he had worked for Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Co., Olivetti and Executone, all in the Washington, D.C. area.

Survivors include his birth mother, Miriam Ann Holloway and her husband, Dr. Charles Holloway; two daughters, Robin Early and Monica Seymour; two brothers, Tom Hardesty and Samuel Ray Hardesty Jr.; his ex-wife, Kathy Brinning Moreira; six grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his adopted parents; Samuel and Mabel Hardesty; and two nephews.

Graveside military services were conducted by the U.S. Marines on Oct. 16 at Quantico National Cemetery in Triangle, Va., south of Washington, D.C. with Mel Barth officiating. Everly Funeral Horne of Fairfax, Va., was in charge of arrangements.
