George Leroy 'Roy' Curtis

OLLIE - George Leroy "Roy" Curtis, 93, of Wayland, formerly of Ollie, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1993, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m Wednesday at Fremont Funeral Chapel, with burial in Mount Zion Cemetery near Martinsburg. Visitation is open at the funeral chapel, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. A memorial has been established to Hedrick United Methodist Church.

Curtis was born Jan. 4, 1900, in Ollie, the son of George and Amelia Terrell Curtis. He married Edith Chacey on Jan. 28, 1920, in Pekin. She died Nov. 23, 1987. He was a member of Hedrick United Methodist Church. A farmer for 60 years in the Ollie community, he moved from the farm to Park View in 1980. In 1990, he moved to Harmony, Minn., and lived there until September 1991, then moved to Wayland, where he lived until his death.

Surviving are a son, Virgil of Richland; four granddaughters and five great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Harvey and William, a sister, Marie Eckley, and a granddaughter preceded him in death.
