Ava M. Kent

IOWA CITY - Ava M. Kent, 86, of Iowa City, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 1992, at Mercy Hospital after a long illness.

The service was held Monday afternoon at George L. Gay Funeral Home in Iowa City with the Rev. Nancy English officiating. Burial was in Friends Cemetery at Richland. Memorials were established to Parkinson's Research and the Welsh Congregational Church in Iowa City.

Mrs. Kent was born June 3, 1905, in Packwood, the daughter of John and Margaret Wolfe Bennett. She graduated from Packwood High School, and attended Parsons College. A rural school teacher for many years, she married Claire D. Kent on Jan. 1, 1928, in Ottumwa. The couple lived in Washington, Iowa, and Burlington before moving to Iowa City in 1937. She was a member of the Welsh Congregational Church and World War I Barracks Auxiliary 1139.

Surviving are a son, Larry of Iowa City; a daughter, Sharon M. Newhard of Des Moines; three grandsons and five great-grandchildren. Her husband, four sisters and a brother preceded her in death.
