H. Conklin Rites Set

Harriett Conklin, 71, former longtime school nurse in the Fairfield schools, died at 2:15 p.m. Saturday at the Long Term Care Center in Washington.

She had been in failing health for a number of months and a patient at the Care Center for the past 11 days.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the first Christian Church with the Rev. Ned C. Gillum in charge. Burial will be in the Keota Cemetery at Keota.

The casket will be taken from the Raymond Funeral Home to the Church at noon Tuesday.

Harriett Conklin devoted her life to a career of nursing and caring for others. She was a nurse at the Jefferson County Hospital following her training, and served as school nursed in Fairfield School District for 31 years.

She also worked during many summer months at the Sunnyslope Sanitarium in Ottumwa.

Miss Conklin was a member of the Christian Church, Soroptimists, Pythian Sisters, TTT, DAR and CAR. She served on the Jefferson County Red Cross Board and Cancer Board.

She was also past president of the Second District, Iowa Nurses Association; and served on the Board of the Iowa Nurses Association.

Harriett Conklin was born Nov. 1, 1901, in Keota, the daughter of John and Cora Anderson Conklin. She was reared and educated in Keota and received her nurses training at the Jefferson County Hospital with affiliation at the University of Iowa City.

She met her qualifications for classified health nurse at George Peabody College.

Miss Conklin is survived by one aunt, one uncle and a number of cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Miss Conklin had been a resident of Fairfield since February, 1924. The family home is at 304 S. Court.

Members of Chapter E, TTT are asked to meet at the church preceding the 1:30 p.m. service.
