BOLCOME, ROLSTON

In Response To: Bolcome in Jones Co. (Gordon Rolston)

I see that in 1880, Julie (Julia) had moved back in with her mother along
with child Jennie but only child seen. Her parents David Ralston and
Phoebe Clemmer both died in Monticello, Jones Co., IA.

The LDS shows Julie Ann Ralston born December 2, 1852 in Montgomery, OH
and died April 1, 1934 but doesn't show where but is buried at the Oakwood
Cemetery in Monticello with spelling Balcome (with the Ba instead of Bo).
She is seen 1900-1920 census living alone in the Monticello area and the
1900 census also shows she had been married 30 years and had only one
child. The 1910 census changes from married to Widowed as does the 1920
census.

Their daughter Jennie M. Bolcome married 1890 to William H. Skelly at
Monticello and shows her father's name as Lee Bolcome. The more common
spelling is Balcome.

I see him in the 1880 census listed as Henry E. Bolcom, age 30 (c.1850 NY)
married and living with the John Veedin household (John was a Railroad
Conductor and says Henry worked as a Dry Goods Merchant) but no wife seen
in Cumberland, Barron Co., WI.

There is a web page by Kathleen Bloxsom Wagner that shows this couple...
she has researched the Ralston family and the link is:

http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~bloxsom/ralston%20family/ralgen8.htm

The listing for Julie/Julia on her page says:

"... Julia Ann Rolstone b. Feb 12 1852, Warsaw, Jackson Twp., Kosciusko
Co., IN, m. Apr 03 1870, in Hicksville, Jones Co., IA, E. Henry Bolcome.
Julia died Apr 01 1934, Monticello, Jones Co., IA, buried Oakwood Cem.,
Monticello, Jones Co., IA. Julia's husband left her and Jennie Mae, she
returned to her parents' home. After Jennie Mae married, she lived with
them until her death.

Children: Jennie Mae Bolcome b. Aug 06 1873.

Henry doesn't readily show up in the Iowa or neighboring states area for
1900. Possibly he moved back to New York for I do see a Henry Balcom, born
Oct 1849 in NY married only 8 years (c.1892) to a Roanna living at
Hounsfield, Jefferson Co., NY. The parents show father born NY and mother
in England. This matches the parents for the Henry E. Bolcom found in the
1880 Wisconsin census. Nothing else I see under spellings Bolcome, Bolcom,
Bolcomb, Balcome, Balcom, or Balcomb. If this one in NY isn't him (proper
age, name, and parents), then maybe he died between 1880-1900? I am pretty
sure this is him in NY 1900. May want to look into that. 1910 shows him
age 60, widowed, and as a servant in a household in Watertown, Jefferson
Co., NY then remarried to an Ida M. (age 52 with his age 70) in the 1920
census, same township so probably died there.

Jim
