Sorry, I don't have further information on him at hand. Just a volunteer answering questions on this forum who lives in Virginia. Sounds like you do need to check the one in Sumas out further.

It's not unusual for either obituaries or census to have the wrong age. I had one relative who's age changed almost with every census... sometimes as much as 10 years. The family held a 100 year birthday party for him and come to find out wasn't actually that old then. They could have been a child when the parents died and lived out their lives not knowing exactly when they were born or the informant at death didn't know. So many variables which is why one has to use date ranges and not one age verbatim sometimes.

A lot of people headed out west and settled in California, Colorado, and Washington from Iowa so doesn't mean he didn't live there at one time. Just may have been a time "between" census.
