Thanks, Eric. Mary's obit tells nothing about her ancestry. Her son, Charles Chesire, married Mary O'Toole, daughter of Michael O'Toole. Interestingly, the 1879 Jones Co. History gives John Chesire's wife's name as "Mary O.Tool", but the baptismal records of all their children say she was McDermott. Also, there is a marriage record for John Chesire and Mary McDermott at the Jones Co. court house,Jan 16, 1864. The John Chesire you mention is my brother.
