Thank you so much for your response.

I believe that has to be the right family. My mom seemed to think the world of Grandma Parsons (Lusina McCarney), but Lusina had died several years previously, as had Mom's parents, and I did not know enough to ask questions when I should have.

I know that Lusina B. McCarney was born in Lisbon, Iowa, and I believe her birthdate was 10/01/1863. She died on 05/19/25 in Garrison, ND. My mother gave me a Bible which had been given to her by Lusina; in the front of that is written "Given to Lusina B. McCarney by Tom McCarney." Mom said that Tom was Lusina's brother and that he had carried that Bible with him during the Civil War. I have found 1 Tom McCarney, from Iowa who served in that war.

In an 1856 state census of Greenfield Township there is a listing for Anthony McCarney (31), Catherine McCarney (29), Thomas McCarney (11), Maryan McCarney (4), and Samantha McCarney (1). According to that, Anthony and Catherine were both born in PA, the children listed had been born in Ohio. My cousin located a census for the family in Kansas when Lusina is 20. Catherine is not listed. In Lusina's obituary, she is said to be survived by 1 sibling, Emanuel McCarney of Morley, Iowa.

I live in Maryland and, fortunately, research in PA would not be that difficult. We have been so long with no idea where to look, now we will be off to PA the first time we get a chance.

Thank you again. If there is any research I can do for you while we are in Franklin County, or if you learn more of the McCarney family, I hope you will be in touch.
