From the Anamosa Eureka Centennial Edition, August 18, 1938, section 8, page 1:

"Dr. E.W. Gawley possessed a flashy personality, was a horseman, but nevertheless, a good doctor and surgeon. Dr. Thomas C. Gorman studied with him, and for many years was a successful physician and a great booster for the community in which he lived."
