OLIN - Ward J. Walston, 78, died Monday, Feb. 15, at his home in Manchester, following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, in the Bohnenkamp funeral home, with the Rev. Walter Dimmlich officiating. Burial was made in Oakland cemetery.

Walston was born Dec. 8, 1892, at Hale, son of Charles E. and Mary Merritt Walston. He lived for a number of years in Olin where his father operated a general merchandise store where Kreger's Hardware is now located.

He received his grade school education at Hale and graduated from Olin high school with the class of 1912. He has lived in the Manchester community for the past 57 years.

He was married to Mary Thing at Manchester Dec. 29, 1930. Walston was a retired farmer.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Dorrance (Margaret) Fowler, Amarillo, Tex.; and Mrs. Lloyd (Bessie) Helmrichs, Earlville; two sons, Charles Walston and Dean Walston, both of Manchester; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother, his first wife, Sara, and a granddaughter.
