December 24, 1970 - The Anamosa Eureka

Funeral services for Mrs. Peter S. Johannsen, 83, were held Wednesday, Dec. 23, at the Goettsch funeral home, Anamosa. Mrs. Johannsen succumbed Monday, Dec. 21, at Anamosa Community hospital following a lingering illness.

Rev. Melvin Miller officiated at the services held at 1:30 p.m. Music was provided by Mrs. Harold Martensen, accompanied by Mrs. M. W. Frederick.

Casketbearers were Thomas Stimpson, T. W. Baker, Vernie Michels, Donald Michels, James May and Walter Cook. Interment was in Oakwood cemetery, Monticello.

She was born Elsie E. Crain April 17, 1887, in Jackson township, Jones county, the daughter of Thomas and Caroline Coffitts Crain. She attended school in Jackson township. On June 27, 1936, she married Peter Johannsen in Anamosa.

Mrs. Johannsen, a life-long resident of Jones county, was a 50-year member of Mt. Moriah chapter Eastern Star, and the Rebekah Lodge.

Survivors include her husband; one sister, Mrs. Harold Merritt, Anamosa; one brother, Lee Crain, Olin, two nieces, Mrs. Robert Petersen and Mrs. John Voss, both of Olin. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Blanche.
