SCOTCH GROVE - Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, Nov. 21, in St. John's Lutheran church for Mrs. Glen Goldsmith, Scotch Grove, who died Tuesday, Nov. 17, after a brief illness in the Monticello hospital. Rev. C. C. Gutekunst was the clergyman.

Dorothy Ann Catherine Gerdes, daughter of the late Carl Gerdes and Mrs. Gerdes, was born Aug. 11, 1924 near Center Junction. She received her education in Jones county schools, was a graduate of the Monticello Public high school and taught a year before her marriage.

She was married June 7, 1942 to Glen Goldsmith and the couple has lived in Scotch Grove thereafter until her death.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Wayne Lutheran church and later transferred to St. John's Lutheran church where she was very active in church activities.

She also served as a leader for over ten years for the Scotch Gove Sunshine 4-H Girl's club and was active in county 4-H activities as well.

Survivors include her husband, Glen; her mother, Mrs. Carl Gerdes, Langworthy; six children, Marvin C. Goldsmith, Lafontaine, Ind.; Mrs. Stanley (Susan) Burrichter, Mrs. Donald (Glenda) Eilers, Scotch Grove; Edwin E., Katheryn A. and Carol Sue, at home; one brother, Robert Gerdes, Langworthy; one grandchild, Gregory Goldsmith, LaFontaine, Ind. She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Gerdes, two weeks ago and a grandchild, earlier this year.

Casketbearers included Paul E. Paulsen, Louie Hanken, Irvin Hussman, Walter Eby, Andy Kelchen, Robert Hanssen, Lynn Kuhns all of Scotch Grove and John R. Wright, Rural Monticello. Interment was made in the Oakwood cemetery near Monticello.

Coleen Naylor, Scotch Grove, served as the soloist and Jerry Egger, Monticello, as the organist.
