September 10, 1970 - The Anamosa Eureka

Mrs. Joseph (Mary E.) Wright, 72, Anamosa, died Thursday, Sept. 3, at her home at 502 S. Linn, following an illness of several months.

Rosary was recited Saturday, Sept. 5, at 9 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 6, at 8 p.m. at the Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa.

Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 7, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Patrick Catholic church. Rev. Alfred Brosius conducted the service. Burial was in Riverside cemetery. Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa, was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers included Harold Thompson, Arthur Boots, jr., Robet Kula, Edward Fagen, Milo Soukup and Leon Soukup.

She was born April 28, 1898, daughter of Wenclav Soukup and Anna Yielek Soukup, Linn county. She was married Sept. 27, 1932, to Joseph Wright. She had lived her married life on farms in Linn and Jones county before moving to Anamosa in 1960.

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic church, Altar and Rosary society, Wapsi-ana Garden club, Friendship club and the A.B.C. Homemakers club.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph; five children, Everett Lawrence, Wilmington, Calif.; Dale Lawrence, Dulluth, Minn.; Mrs. Genevieve Kula, Anamosa; Mrs. D. A. (Dorothy) Downing, Anamosa; and Richard Wright, Las Vegas, Nev.

Other survivors include two brothers, John Soukup, Prairieburg; and Frank Soukup, Kent, Wash.; and 20 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Leonard and Gilbert; three brothers, one sister and a grandchild.
