11 June 1970 - The Anamosa Eureka

OLIN - Ernest Wigger, 83, Olin, died Wednesday, June 3, at Monticello.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 5, at 1:30 p.m., at St. John's Lutheran church, Olin. Rev. Harold Tegtmeier conducted the service. Burial was in the Masonic cemetery, Tipton. Loren Hartwig was soloist. Mrs. Kenneth Guhl was organist.

Pallbearers included Donald Ackerman, Wayne Vernon, Robert Beck, Lynn First, John Sanford and Melvin Wigger.

He was born March 26, 1887, son of Dietrich and Marie Lohman Wigger, Estorf Province, Hanover, Germany. He came to the United States at the age of 16. He was a member of the Lutheran church.

In 1910 he was married to Elizabeth H. Roennau. She preceded him in death in 1915. In 1919 he was married to Helene Gade Schaefer. They farmed in Jones and Cedar counties until moving to Olin in 1941. He then worked in a factory until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Helene; his children, Raymond Wigger, Liberty, Mo.; Ray Schaefer, Anamosa; Esther, Mrs. Ernest Schwabe, Monticello; Ruth, Mrs. Donald First, Monticello; two sisters, Mrs. Marie Bredemeir and Mrs. Minnie Vehrenkamp, both of Germany; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ernie; a daughter, Mathilde; his parents, two sisters and two brothers.
