OLIN - Elbert Stingley, 88, died Wednesday, May 6, at St. Luke's hospital, Cedar Rapids.

A family prayer service was held at the Hayden Funeral home, Olin, on Saturday, May 9, at 10:30 a.m., with memorial services at the home at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Lloyd Dutro, pastor of Olin St. Paul's United Methodist church, was in charge of the services. Interment was in the Olin cemetery.

Pallbearers included Deane Sarby, Gilbert Jones, Fred Hefflefinger, Ernest Peck, Willard Hoyman and Howard Cruise.

He was born Dec. 28, 1881, son of Jacob and Fidelia Hammond Stingley near Olin. He grew to manhood in the Olin area where he attended the rural schools in that vicinity.

On Oct. 12, 1904, he was married to Ida May Hayden at Olin. With the exception of five years spent at Pine River, Minn., they had lived their entire life in the Olin community.

Although he had farmed for a few years, Mr. Stingley operated a harness and shoe repair business in Olin until failing health compelled him to retire a few years ago.

Survivors include one son, Eldo, Marshall, Minn.; one daughter, Lois (Mrs. Orren Lonning) Des Moines; his twin brother, Delbert, Olin; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, April 23, 1941; his parents, two sisters and one brother.
