12 March 1970 - The Anamosa Eureka

Edgar D. Beach, 80, Anamosa, died Sunday, March 8, at Anamosa Community hospital, following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 12, at 2 p.m., at the Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa. Rev. Melvin Miller will conduct the service. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery.

Pallbearers include George Hall, G. J. Armstrong, John Parham, Harold Wolmutt, Ed Heiserman and Ernest Buresh.

He was born June 12, 1889, son of John E. Beach and Rose Deuchar Beach, Bryan, Ohio. He graduated from Bryan high school and Oberlin college, Oberlin, Ohio in 1914. He was married Nov. 28, 1917, to Elsa Strawman, Anamosa.

He taught school at Cornell college, Mount Vernon; Sterling college, Sterling, Kan.; and at Mitchell, S. Dak. He served in the army during World war I. He helped organize Maquoketa Valley Rural Electric Cooperative and was its first manager from April 1936 until his retirement Dec. 31, 1959.

He was a member of the Masonic lodge, Bryan, Ohio; Mt. Olivet chapter and Mt. Sinai chapter, and American Legion.

Survivors include a brother, John E., West Palm Beach, Fla.; and a nephew, Richard Beach, Grosse Ile, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his wife in May of 1965.
