HALE - Cora May Root, 97, Hale, died Friday, March 6, in Iowa City.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 9, at the Hayden Funeral home, Olin. Donald R. Maire, Monticello, conducted the service.

Pallbearers included Carl Markman, Ervin Rohwedder, Norman Ahrendsen, Ernest Behnke, Jay Glick and Gerald Kruse.

She was born Oct. 17, 1872, in Jones county. She had spent the last several years living at the Brandt Nursing home, Wyoming. She was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses for many years.

Survivors include a daughter, Esther, Mrs. Marshall Young, Cedar Rapids; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Ballou, Independence; and a brother, Frank Phillips, Olin.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Merton Tubbs and Edmund Root; and a son, Morris Tubbs.
