MARTELLE - Funeral service for Dewey August Petersen, 56, who died at Mercy hospital, Anamosa, Sunday, May 16, was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, at Goettsch funeral home, Anamosa.

Rev. George Youtzy officiated. Burial was in Norwich cemetery. Serving as casket bearers were Walter Randall, Albert Bobst, Virgil Miller, Glen May, Floyd Thomas and Joe Axline.

Son of Fred and Lucille Jurgensen Petersen, he was born Sept. 19, 1897, at Olin. He attended school in Jones county, and attended the Methodist church, Anamosa.

Mr. Petersen was married to Nellie Hurt Aug. 6, 1920, at Anamosa, and they farmed in Jones county for six years. For the last 20 years, he worked as a blacksmith.

Surviving, besides his wife, are eight children. They are: Lloyd, Monticello; Paul, U.S. air force; Fred, U.S. army; Richard, Douglas and Dewey, jr., at home; Lorene Hartwig, Martelle; Velma Collins, Mt. Vernon, and three grandchildren.

Six sisters and three brothers also survive. They are: Laura Gibbons, Los Angeles; Mrs. Anna Wallace, Holland, Mich.; Mrs. Clara Abbenseth, Davenport; Mrs. Dorothy Piper, Sioux Falls, S. Dak.; Mrs. John Steenhoek, Anamosa; Mrs. Frances Thomas, DeWitt; Fred, Nuela, Colo.; Rudolph, Kadoka, S.Dak.; and Lloyd, Lisbon. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Marie; his parents, and two brothers, Carl and William.
