4 October 1954 - The Anamosa Journal

Robert Ireland, 75, Anamosa, died at Clemens nursing home at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, after an illness of many years. He had been taken to the nursing home a short time before.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at McNamara funeral home with Rev. H. A. James officiating. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery.

Before he became ill, Mr. Ireland was employed as a contractor.

He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Henry Fedderson, Clarence; Mrs. Lora Williams, Oskaloosa; Mrs. Harry Matthiesen, Monticello, and Mrs. Lillian Myers, Anamosa; a son, Robert, Anamosa, and five grandchildren.

Funeral service was conducted for Robert E. Ireland, 75, at McNamara funeral home at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, with burial in Riverside cemetery. Rev. H. A. James officiated.

Mr. Ireland died at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, at Clemens nursing home, Anamosa. He suffered a stroke nine years ago and never fully recovered. Succeeding strokes confined him to his bed where he remained the last two years of his life.

Son of the late Benjamin F. and Katherine Lyons Ireland, he was born May 4, 1897, in Jones county, where he resided all his life.

Aug. 19, 1903, he was married to Miss Carrie Healy, Anamosa. Following their marriage, the couple lived on a farm near Anamosa. Mr. and Mrs. Ireland were the parents of seven children, two of which died in infancy.

Mr. Ireland stopped farming in 1920 and moved to Anamosa, where he became a contractor. For a number of years he served the community as city councilman.

In 1924 he became a member of the Anamosa Methodist church. Mr. Ireland was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

Preceding him in death were his parents, 10 brothers and sisters, and two sons, who died in infancy.

Surviving are his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Henry (Gladys) Feddersen, Clarence; Mrs. Lillian Myers, Anamosa; Mrs. H. H. (Laura) Williams, Oskaloosa, and Mrs. Harry (Margaret) Matthiesen, Monticello; and one son, Robert, Anamosa.

Five grandchildren also survive.
