James Hackett Hines, 80, Anamosa native, died at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, July 8, in the Soldiers home in Marshalltown.

Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Goettsch funeral home, Anamosa. Burial was in Riverside cemetery.

Mr. Hines was born in Anamosa Feb. 28, 1874. He was assistant superintendent in the tailoring department in the Men's reformatory for 21 years. Before entering the Soldiers home in 1946, he lived in Anamosa 34 years, and then moved to Cedar Rapids.

Affiliated with the First Congregational church, Anamosa, Mr. Hines was a member of the Spanish-American War Veterans. He was married at Salem, N.J., Dec. 15, 1900, to Henrietta Ayars. His wife died in June of 1939.

He is survived by three sons, Allison, Cedar Rapids, Raymond, Hattiesburg, Miss., and Edward, Knoxville, Tenn.; a sister, Katherine, Kansas City; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
