OXFORD JUNCTION - Funeral service for Vit Frank Marek, 73, was held Thursday, May 13, at 8:30 a.m. from the Hayden funeral home and at 9 a.m. from the Sacred Heart church with Rt. Rev. Monsignor Joseph Gregor officiating.

Serving as casket bearers were Joe Kotlinek, James Homolka, Frank C. Henek, Frank Kolarik, Henry Koranda and John Bisinger. Burial was in the Mayflower cemetery.

Vit Marek was born in Czechoslovakia, July 6, 1880, and came to America with his wife in 1915 at the age of 35 years. He was employed for a time as farm labor near Wyoming. Then he farmed for himself near Oxford Junction retiring nine years ago to make his home here where he operated a cobbler business.

He has been in ill health for the past year with heart trouble and was in Mercy hospital, Anamosa, for a time then going to the home of his son, James, near Anamosa, where he died Tuesday evening, May 11. Body was brought here to the Hayden funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, one son James, two daughters, Mrs. Lydia Yarolen, Monmouth, and Mrs. Anna Knake, Oxford Junction; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Three sisters survive in Germany.
