March 15, 1954 - The Anamosa Journal

ONSLOW - Funeral service for Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Orr, 92, was held Tuesday, March 9, at 2 p.m. in the Onslow Presbyterian church with the Wallace Brothers funeral home in charge. Officiating pastor was Rev. F. S. Somerville.

Junior Hicks, Maquoketa, was soloist, and sang "Rock of Ages" and "Going Down The Valley" with Mrs. Lola Wentz at the organ. Casket bearers were: Dillon Hall, Russell Hall, William Callahan, Ralph Conley, Kenneth Leggett and Alva Streeper. Interment was in the Clay cemetery.

ONSLOW - Mrs. Elizabeth Orr, 92, passed away at her home here, Saturday afternoon, March 6, following a lingering illness.

Elizabeth French, daughter of Aaron and Lydia Duke French, was born Feb. 2, 1862. On Dec. 25, 1879 she was united in marriage to William Orr. The couple resided continuously on a farm in Clay township until their retirement, when they purchased a home in Onslow, where Mrs. Orr has lived for 36 years. Her husband and one daughter, Mrs. Alice Conley, preceded her in death.

Surviving are a son, David Orr, of Clinton; two daughters, Mrs. Elsie Callahan and Mrs. Elva Hall, of Onslow; five grandchildren, Dillon Hall and Billy Callahan, Onslow, Russell Hall of Cedar Rapids, Ralph Conley, Anamosa, and Mrs. Velma Mitchell of Waubeek, and five great-grandhcildren.
