Services for Louis J. Knake, 60 year old blacksmith, formerly of Monticello, were held at St. John's Lutheran church, Bellevue, at 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 8, with Rev. Arnold Jahr, pastor, officiating.

Mr. Knake died Thursday afternoon, March 4, at the University hospital, Iowa City, after several months illness.

Louis Knake was the eldest child of Henry Knake and his wife Antje Janssen, both deceased. He was born May 5, 1893 in Wayne township and was baptized in the Wayne Lutheran church by the late Rev. C. Mardorf. In 1907 he was confirmed in St. Peter and Paul's Lutheran church, Castle Grove township, by Rev. W. Reinecke. He grew to manhood in this locality.

On October 19, 1916, he was united in marriage with Miss Amalia Oltmanns. They made their first home on a farm near Central City; after a few years they moved to Springville, where he opened a blacksmith shop. After eight years the family moved to Bellevue in 1929 where he resided until his death. To this union were born nine children: three sons, Henry of Cedar Rapids, Edward of Pasco, Wash., and Albert of Bellevue; six daughters, Mrs. William Meyer of Davenport, the Misses Lena, Mary Louise and Minnie of Davenport, Meta, of Wichita, Kans., and Mrs. Thomas Chantos of Bellevue.

Left to mourn his untimely demise besides the bereaved widow and children and ten grandchildren, are two brothers, Henry of Strawberry Point and Edward of Cedar Rapids; four sisters, Mrs. Anna Gerdes of Iowa City, Mrs. Hank Siebels of Anamosa, Mrs. Vernon McCrea of Waterloo, and Mrs. H. C. Gold of Alice, Texas.

Interment was in Bellevue, under the direction of the Dye mortuary.
