OXFORD JUNCTION - Funeral service for Joseph P. Powelka, 83, was held Thursday, Dec. 24, at 1:30 p.m. from the Hayden funeral home with Rev. Kenneth Harden in charge of the service.

Junior Hicks, Maquoketa, was the soloist accompanied at the organ by Mrs. John Welty. Serving as casket bearers were James Nowachek, Frank Nowachek, Charles Benhart, Frank Benhart, Ed Zak and Otto Benhart. Burial was in the Mayflower cemetery.

Joseph Powelka was born at Oxford Junction Jan. 26, 1870, the son of Joseph and Anna Moravec Powelka. He was united in marriage to Anna Homolka in Cedar Rapids, April 3, 1894, and they farmed in this area until 1919 when they retired and moved to Cedar Rapids, where they made their home for eight years coming then to Wyoming where they lived until the time of Mrs. Powelka's death August 29, 1947.

Mr. Powelka then went to live with his son, Manford, at Maquoketa where he died Tuesday, Dec. 22.

Body was brought the Hayen funeral home.

Surviving are the one son, Manford, five grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, one brother, Manuel, Oxford Junction.

He was preceded in death by his wife, two sons, Gilbert and Robert, a brother Frank and a sister, Mrs. Henry Shimerda, Oxford Junction.
