James E. Thompson, 60, former Jones county resident residing at Des Moines, died Thursday, Dec. 24, at Iowa Lutheran hospital, Des Moines, following a long illness.

Body was brought to McNamara funeral home, Anamosa, at 11 a.m. Monday, where funeral service was conducted at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Walter D. Wigger officiating.

Burial was in Hazel Knoll cemetery. Funeral service was conducted at Des Moines at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 27.

Mr. Thompson was born March 17, 1893, at Cass Center in Jones county, the youngest son of the late Henry Thompson and Emma Burlingham Thompson. He attended grade school at Cass Center.

He worked for what was known as the C.A.N. railroad running out of Anamosa for several years. Later Mr. Thompson moved to Des Moines, where he lived for 30 years. He served a number of years in the army at Fort Des Moines and later worked as a stationary fireman for the city of Des Moines.

Mr. Thompson was a member of the Home lodge, Royal Arch, Eastern Star and Low 12 and was a Baptist church member.

Surviving are his wife, Helen; one son, Eugene, Newcastle, Nebr.; a daughter, Mrs. Eunice McGee, Anamosa; two brothers, Henry Thomspon, jr., Lisbon and Glen Thompson, Anamosa; three sisters, Mrs. Laverne Craft, Marshalltown; Mrs. Bird Atwood, Anamosa, and Mrs. Erma Boots, Viola.

Five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents.
