30 November 1953 - The Anamosa Journal

J. P. Edwards, 63, died unexpectedly at his home in Anamosa Sunday night, Nov. 2. For the past three years he has been employed at the Men's reformatory, where he was foreman of the number plate factory.

Funeral arrangements were not completed as The Journal went to press Monday morning. Body is at Goettsch funeral home.

Mr. Edwards is survived by his wife; three sons, Neil, Clarence and Bernard, and a daughter, Mrs. Tom Jensen, all of Anamosa. Thirteen grandchildren also survive.

One son, Rex, was killed in Italy during World War II.

Funeral service for J. P. "Pat" Edwards, 63, who died unexpectedly at his home Sunday, Nov. 29, was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Goettsch funeral home.

Rev. H. A. James officiated. Burial was at Riverside cemetery. Casket bearers were George, Howard, Robert, Arch, Gale and Dale Edwards.

Jerome Patterson Edwards, son of Israel and Lavina Edwards, was born Jan. 10, 1890, on a farm north of Onslow. While he was a boy the family moved to Monmouth, where he was graduated from high school as valedictorian of his class.

After his graduation he taught school for a time, then with his parents went to South Dakota, where he entered the State Teacher's institute.

Mr. Edwards stayed in South Dakota a short time and then returned to Jones county. Aug. 10, 1912, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Eisentrager at Onslow.

First home was established near Onslow, where Mr. Edwards farmed, but a short time later the couple went to Canada where they remained for six years.

For the last 13 years Mr. Edwards had been a guard at the Men's reformatory. He had been in ill health for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two children, who died in infancy, and son, Rex, who was killed in Italy during the World War II.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Helen, (Mrs. Thomas Jensen) Anamosa; three sons, Neil and Clarence (Sammy), Anamosa, and Bernard, Monticello; and 13 grandchildren.

He is also survived by two brothers, Tom, Monticello, and Arch, Anamosa; three sisters, Mrs. Esther Hall, Los Angeles; Mrs. Effie Coburn, Detroit, Mich.; and Mrs. Ferd Lynch, Onslow.
